My Passion
As features editor at Eclipse Home Magazine, I get to write about all sorts of things, but my favourite thing to write about would have to be the pillow.
Pillows are so versatile and dexterous, there's just so much to write on the topic. My colleagues joke and say that I should start up my own pillow magazine, but I think it's a great idea.
There's nothing on the market solely devoted to pillows, so I think it's worth taking a shot.
Getting My Job
It was pretty difficult to get to where I am now. Since my dream job is to be a pillow-focused features editor, writing about general home furnishings is almost my dream job, so I'm nearly there. No one in my family thought homewares and styling was a big industry when I started out, but they're so wrong - it's huge. I actually think it's too big, and people like me need to make some niche publications focused on things like sheets and pillows.
My Writing Style
I currently write about all sorts of home furnishings, but mostly quilt cover sets and bedding. We cover all sorts of brands and nothing is off-limits, so I like to inject a bit of my own personality in to my work - I think that's why I've been so successful in this company. I've been working here for 30-years, and I really love it. If the pillow magazine doesn't work out, I'm hoping to become editor-in-chief.
Doing My Job
One subject I like to palm off on to junior writers is anything to do with a towel. Towels serve a purpose in life, but in my opinion, there's nothing special about a towel. Some companies like to dress them up and make them look and sound fancier than they are with embroidery and other decorations, but a towel is a towel.
